Gluten free Vegan Heaven! - Now its new name is Aster -

Opened just one year ago, Acacia in Copenhagen is a 100% gluten free, vegan, no refined sugar coffee shop and pastry shop where everything is house made, with much passion and hard work to achieve amazing results.

The owner and founder Alice Langermann was born from an English father and a Danish mother, the whole family lived in London before moving back to Copenhagen and it was in the English capital city that Alicia - who is gluten intolerant and vegan - started to make cakes in her kitchen and sell them to clients.

The success of her cake business showed her that she had potential so when she moved back to Copenhagen, she decided to open up her own pastry shop and call it Acacia, because it’s her second name and also a tree that she cherishes a lot.

Her credo is to propose gluten free, vegan and raw food that tastes great but also, that is good for us, so she decided to ban soy, dates, and refined sugar from everything she makes.

She uses instead maple syrup, natural fruit, alternative flours, and all kinds of plant milk like cashew for example that is house made as well as the gluten free seeded bread.

I tasted her famous Sorghum flour waffles, with rhubarb hibiscus strawberry compote, coconut milk ice cream with tahini swirl, sesame granola, rose petals and freeze dried raspberry – they were so delicious, light and airy – just perfect to me!

I also had the blueberry + lime chia pudding, apricot orange blossom compote, pears, blueberries, pistachios, toasted coconut, and lemon thyme. So good!

The avocado toasts on typical Danish seeded bread and the nice creams are delicious too.

This was really heaven for me!

Superfood Lattes are perfectly prepared: I did enjoy my beet latte one day and the spirulina one another day.

Freshly pressed green juices are also available and I loved the lemongrass + lemon verbena herbal tea I was kindly offered by Alicia’s sister.

On the menu that will change according to the seasons and Alicia’s creativity, you will find buckwheat pancakes, banana bread, French toasts, smoothie bowls, savoury veggie bowls, risotto, chickpeas pancakes, raw cakes and ice-creams.

Enough, I can say, to make any celiac or vegan really but really happy…!

What I also loved about Acacia is the team: basically it’s a family run business and while Alicia is in the kitchen, working hard to make every dish perfect and have her clients happy, her mother and sister welcome you inside the coffee shop with such warmth and loving smiles that it was hard for me to leave…!

Acacia was really love at first sight and I highly recommend it. I am sure that you will love it as much as I did 🙂
