Yesterday I arrived in Turin to spend some days here and do some work. In time I have been getting to know this city a little bit better and I have to say that I love it more and more. People are nice, friendly, proud of their beautiful city, and I like very much learning something new each time I come and of course taste new gluten free spots!
This time I went to SaporDivino, a lovely restaurant niched in the Balon neighbourhood, close to the famous Porta Palazzo market.
SaporDivino is specialised in typical cuisine from the Piemonte region. I chose to have a gluten free « Vitello Tonnato », that is a dish made of tender veal served with a tasty tuna sauce. In Turin each restaurant claims to have its own and best recipe for the « Vitello Tonnato ». This one was definitely one of the best that I have ever had. I liked the consistency of the sauce, creamy and soft, and the top quality of the meat.
As a side dish, I chose a trio of grilled vegetables: eggplant, zucchini and radicchio. The vegetables were cut thin and with some crunchy left. With a sprinkle of extra virgin olive oil, they looked just perfect to me.
After I went straight for a gluten free dessert and I chose a typical gluten free cake from Piemonte, the so called « Langarola ».
The « Langarola » is basically a cake made with hazelnuts – Piemonte is renown all over the world for its small, round, super tasty hazelnuts (well, Nutella was born around here for a reason ;-).
My dessert came with gluten free zabaglione cream, mmmhhh, that was my cherry on the cake!
The Balon neighbourhood takes its name from the famous Balon flee market that opens every Saturday. If you happen to stay longer in Turin, each second Sunday of the month there is the Big Balon, that is an antiques market, very famous and sought-after here.
