Today we get to know Yum Magazine a bit better. I am very happy and honoured to interview Bianca Shugg, Founder, Editor and Publisher of one of my very favourite magazines.
Chiara: Why gluten free?
Bianca: I wish I could say that it was by choice, but no, I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease in 2011 after the birth of my second daughter. Unfortunately, although common, I was then later diagnosed with Hashimotos, which is an auto immune disease with strong links to Coeliac Disease. With in weeks of completely removing gluten from my diet, my symptoms and the effects of Hashimotos and Coeliac Disease had disappeared.
Chiara: What is Yum?
Bianca: Yum is a celebration of food, places and people like any good food publication. I took inspiration from my favourite titles like Gourmet Traveller, Donna Hay and Jamie Oliver and created my own magazine with one major difference, everything would be gluten free. Still amazing food, products and stories, but it just happened to be GF! I actually didn’t want Yum to stand out from the crowd, I wanted it to blend in, like no one even notices our difference, because Coeliac suffers are any one with a gluten intolerance deserve to feel normal.
Chiara: What is the gluten free food that you love the most?
Bianca: It changes daily, but I do love a good gluten free muesli or a homemade chia seed pudding with fresh strawberries. But high on the list at the moment would be Cocofrio’s coconut Ice cream, I can’t get enough.
Chiara: Gluten free is…
Bianca: Gluten free is … my world. I live breathe and funnily enough enjoy living and educating people about Coeliacs and gluten contamination.
Chiara: What is Yum next challenge?
Bianca: My next challenge is 2016! It’s going to be a massive year, I have so much planned from community education events to major launches! So stay tuned.
