Today we get to know Les idées à la pelle a bit better. Les idéés à la pelle in Brussels is a lovely organic épicerie and gluten free canteen that proposes 100% gluten free home-made foods. Aurélie, co-founder of Les idées à la pelle along with Benjamin, kindly answers to our questions.
Chiara: Why gluten free?
Aurélie: I discovered I was allergic to gluten two years ago and I found really difficult to find gluten free food in restaurants in Brussels. I decided to do something about it and got the idea to create a place where I could cook food that was 100 % gluten free, healthy and tasty.
Chiara: What is Les idées à la pelle?
Aurélie: Actually “pelle” used to be my nickname. At the beginning there was an organic shop here, in Avenue Louis Bertrand, we took it over two months ago. We decided to keep the organic shop that today offers products both with gluten and gluten free. Along with it, we created a place where we could cook and propose gluten free food for lunch with no danger of cross contamination with gluten. One day a week, that is on Thursdays, we cook both vegan and gluten free.
Chiara: What is the gluten free food that you loved the most?
Aurélie: The gluten free cookies from the Belgian brand Generous: to me they are as good as those with gluten. Can’t spot the difference.
Chiara: Gluten free is…
Aurélie: Very good !
