Who’s Café Patisserie?

Today we get to know Café Patisserie da Domenica a bit better. Cafe Patisserie da Domenica is the first 100% gluten free coffee shop in the city of Turin, in Italy. Domenica Bevilacqua, founder, answers to our questions.

Chiara: Why gluten free?

Domenica: Being celiac is a reality that used to be taken little into account. Celiac people have been there since a long time but they didn’t have many options like all the others. Being a celiac myself, I wanted to create something that I saw it was missing.

Chiara: What is Café Patisserie da Domenica?

Domenica: Domenica is my first name. This place is like my home. I live here, I work here, I spend here most of the time. It is the future of my sons. I work with Andrea already and this is wonderful for me. I wanted to create a coffee shop where everybody could feel welcomed, like stepping into a home, have that feeling. Our gluten free food is home-made, following the finest Italian pastry and baking tradition. We bake our own bread, pizza, tarts and cakes. Cakes can also be ordered in advance for special occasions. We do gluten free catering as well.

Chiara: What is the gluten free food that you loved the most?

Domenica: Our croissants, muffins, the apple tart – very demanded by our clients – and also the birthday cakes. Some of my clients cannot believe they are gluten free.

Domenica: It is a lifestyle. It is not always a choice, celiac people cannot choose but this difficulty entails an opportunity and an alternative way of eating and living that can be good for everybody.
