Starita Materdei

The pizzeria Starita in Materdei opened in Naples in 1901. Sofia Loren was filmed there by Vittorio De Sica for the movie “L’oro di Napoli”. Since the beginning, Starita has become a staple for anyone, neapolitan or tourist, who wants to eat a great pizza in Naples. Yesterday I met with my dear friend Valeria from the blog World Wide Valery and went together to Starita, Valeria’s favourite gluten free pizza in the city.

We ordered two classic pizza Margherita with mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. The taste was that of a “real” pizza and whenever I can find it, I am as happy as ever.

While we were there, we had the chance to meet Don Antonio Starita in person. He told us that he himself developed the mix for his gluten free pizza starting from rice flour.

The service was nice and quick. Pizzeria Starita is actually renown to manage all the work at a fast pace and it usually makes… 750 pizza a day!!

Pizzeria Starita has also a venue in New York City called Don Antonio by Starita where they exported their savoir-faire and one of the best pizza ever.
