Here I am in Lyon for a couple of days and I am so thrilled! This is my very first time in the city and I am so curious to discover as much as I can. I have arrived yesterday, made a stroll in Place Bellecour, in the city center, and it’s so beautiful! I have also had the time to have lunch at one newly opened gluten free restaurant in Lyon 9th arrondissement, Popotte & Co. Popotte & Co is going to celebrate its 6th month anniversary today and I was happy to be there, meet co-founders Amélie and Antonin, eat great gluten free food and chit-chat with them about how it is like to be gluten free and live in Lyon.
My main course was a gluten free Croque Monsieur with Italian ham flavoured with truffle, it was incredibly good! Amélie cooks everything fresh everyday for her happy and lucky customers. I also tried the chicory salad and a French wrap made of buckwheat, they were both very good. Amélie and Antonin wish was to create a place that feels like home, with a friends’ vibe, a place warm and welcoming, where you can feel good and eat simple, yet great tasting food. To me they have succeeded! The place is lovely and they are both very nice and the food, well, the photos don’t lie 😉
For the gourmande that I am, I went also for dessert and how could I not!?! Amélie and Antonin made me taste a bit of their most “wanted” gluten free desserts. I had the “tarte à la praline” that is a typical pink cake from Lyon. Amélie made hers with puff pastry, almonds and cream. I also loved her cheesecake with caramel, so fluffy and so tasty. The panacotta is a new entry and it is made with white chocolate and raspberry! What can I say…I love eating cakes!
In Europe, I can speak about Italy where I was born and France where I live, eating gluten free is still not a given but meeting people like Amélie and Antonin who make such delicious gluten free, support their project through mine is pure happiness to me. I am sure that together we will make gluten free become more mainstream and easy access because when it is cooked with love, it is good, it is healthy and everybody can enjoy it!
