It’s beautiful, it’s good, it’s gluten free!

Marcelle or that unique, one-of-a-kind French charm that it is impossible for me to capture in one word but I can say that I recognise when we see it.

Marcelle has charmed me the first moment I stepped inside this cosy, bright French coffee shop and bakery, located close to the Halles, in Paris 1st arrondissement.

I was charmed by the care put in all the details I could spot here and there:

the fresh flowers in the small vases, the unique handwriting of the typo on the menu and the small cards, the white that married so beautifully with the clear wood of the tables, the even more beautiful pastries, the small sink on the staircase where you can wash your hands before sitting at your table, the homemade granola jars that are also on sale…

How happy I was when I discovered that there are gluten free options available that we can enjoy in such a beautiful place!

I went to Marcelle three times this month and tasted the veggie greens salad with homemade gluten free crackers, the homemade granola with almond milk, the cappuccino with coconut milk, the delicious chestnut cake, the fruit salad, the chai latte… I loved all of them and besides, I had a great time each time I went.

The team at Marcelle is smiling and nice, you feel welcomed and it makes the perfect break in a busy day – whether it is for breakfast, lunch or just an afternoon tea – to enjoy with friends or just with yourself.

This three-floors café looks like a home to me, a warm place where you would like to live or just spend as much time as you can.

Would you like to know who is behind such a fantastic project?

Well, three smart and talented French women!

Alexandra Delarive who also imagined the restaurants Marcel and Marlon, Irène Cohen, founder of the renown French brand for children Bonton, and Ophélie Barès, winner of the TV contest “Qui sera le prochain grand pâtissier”, who also worked as Executive Pastry Chef at reknown Christophe Michalak Parisian boutiques.

Ophélie has developed the recipes of all the cakes, pastries and brioches at Marcelle.

I am glad to see that she thought also about options for people who can’t eat gluten, lactose or meat.

To me this is a sign of tolerance, it’s about having an open mind (and heart) and welcome in more people at the same table.

I would say that Marcelle is a healthy café with a sweet tooth:

pleasure is always on the menu because that’s what all food is about and I am pretty sure that you will like it as much as I did 🙂
