La Zucca has quickly become one of my favorite places in Venice. I like very much this small, yet lovely restaurant close the beautiful Campo San Giorgio Da l’Orio.

It serves great food and it is also gluten free friendly meaning that they can accommodate us gluten free eaters with several available options on the menu.

Besides, if you are in mood of a vegetarian meal, their choice of vegetable dishes is quite impressive and they are definitely very good. This is my second time here.

I decided to start with one of the restaurant most demanded specialties: the pumpkin flan. I loved the texture, so soft, and the taste: it was sweet thanks to the combination of the pumpkin with the cinnamon, and salty thanks to the grated ricotta cheese and the roasted pumpkin seeds. It was scrumptious! I highly recommend it.

After I decided to go vegetarian, and I chose a selection of steamed and baked vegetables with basmati rice and sesame seeds. The dish included: “agretti” (in Venice they call this green vegetable “monk’s beard”) with extra virgin olive oil and lemon, carrots with fresh lime and coriander, a gratin of leeks with gorgonzola cheese, braised violet cabbage with green apples, ratatouille with mixed vegetable and herbs.

The daily dessert was both gluten free and vegan: raspberry aspic with dark chocolate. It was delicious! The perfect way to end a wonderful meal.

I look forward to being back.

pS if by any chance you wish to arrive there by gondola, the restaurant has one small door on the canal that allows you to get inside directly from the boat!
