This week I am in Rome for work and I got the chance to look around and research about what’s new on gluten free.

One day I took a walk in one of my favourite neighbourhoods: Monti. I love it so much: situated across the Colosseo, to me Monti is like the perfect mix of old, beautiful Rome with a touch of an eclectic, young, vibrant feel.

You can always spot new ideas and the latest trends.

It was no surprise that an innovative food concept opened just here in 2014: Grezzo Raw Chocolate.

Founded by Nicola Salvi and Vito Cortese, awarded best Italian raw master chef, Grezzo Raw Chocolate is specialised in raw, gluten free, lactose free, vegan chocolate, pastries, ice-creams and incredible desserts.

At Grezzo Raw chocolate everything is gluten free because there are no flours whatsoever that are used in the kitchen: all the ingredients are natural and organic, a lot of dried fruit selected with great care  like the Italian almonds from Sicily, the hazelnuts from Piedmont, the dates and coconut pulp from California.

The objective is to combine health and taste: at Grezzo they use no refined sugar, all the pastries are sweetened either with agaves syrup or coconut sugar that has a very low glycemic index.

I tasted some pastries and chocolate while I was there and I can say that they were the best raw, vegan and gluten free pastries that I have even had in my life so far!

This delicious “Semifreddo all’arancia” with almonds, cashew, raw chocolate and orange.

What made everything even more special is the staff: Cristiana was so professional, super nice and friendly.

The tea room where you can sit and taste Grezzo specialties is small and cosy.

All the packaging and materials are recyclable, showing a real commitment and respect for Nature and for our planet.
