Italy Gluten free Food Tour with Niepi: Turin

Today I tell you about one nice, laid-back gluten free coffee shop in Turin: Café & Pâtisserie Da Domenica.

On the occasion of the Italy gluten free food tour, I am heading there with Frédérique from Niepi magazine .

I am happy to make her discover this typically Italian coffee shop.

Café & Pâtisserie Da Domenica was founded by Domenica along with her son Andrea. Domenica has celiac disease like myself and her only wish and desire was to create a place in the city where you could sit and enjoy great gluten free food with family and friends. No matter the hour. In one year or less this coffee shop was born and it was the first one 100% gluten free in Turin.

The gluten free breakfast is simply delicious: Domenica bakes fresh croissant early in the morning while her son Andrea makes incredibly good cappuccino and espresso. Gluten free cookies, muffins or tarts are available as well.

Not to forget – and so to try if you go – the Baci di Dama biscuits: my fave!!

Surprises are not over and if you stay a bit longer you can smell freshly baked bread coming straight from the oven. Domenica, she tells us, has learnt everything from scratch and she is a self-taught cook. Working at the coffee shop made her discover a passion for cooking and since then she has learnt making croissant, bread, pizza, focaccia, calzone and other Italian specialties, all gluten free, of course 🙂

For lunch she serves also hot dishes like pasta or lasagne that vary according to the seasons.

More than a coffee shop, Café & Pâtisserie looks like a home: Domenica loves having people around, she is very kind and welcoming and so is her son Andrea.

Their coffee shop has soon become a place to go to in the neighbourhood. People use to come hear to eat great tasting gluten free food, drink a good cup of coffee, read the newspaper but also to talk and exchange about gluten free diet and lifestyle.

Besides the famous Olimpico stadium is a few blocks away Café & Pâtisserie, so if you are going to see a football match or a concert, this is one place to stop by and make the plenty of great, artisanal, fresh food. The fact that it is “also” gluten free, it’s actually just a plus, not a minus to me.

If I managed to make you curious about Café & Pâtissierie, you can have a look at my interview to Domenica right here and know more about it.
