Today I am very happy to share with you a gluten free recipe very easy to do and so good!

It is a flourless cake made of almond flour and chocolate, in Italy we call it “caprese” and it comes from the beautiful and famous isle of Capri, in the Mediterranean sea.

For the holidays I made it in a star-shaped mould and all my family loved it! Hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

 

Surprises are not over and if you stay a bit longer you can smell freshly baked bread coming straight from the oven. Domenica, she tells us, has learnt everything from scratch and she is a self-taught cook. Working at the coffee shop made her discover a passion for cooking and since then she has learnt making croissant, bread, pizza, focaccia, calzone and other Italian specialties, all gluten free, of course 🙂

For lunch she serves also hot dishes like pasta or lasagne that vary according to the seasons.

More than a coffee shop, Café & Pâtisserie looks like a home: Domenica loves having people around, she is very kind and welcoming and so is her son Andrea.

Their coffee shop has soon become a place to go to in the neighbourhood. People use to come hear to eat great tasting gluten free food, drink a good cup of coffee, read the newspaper but also to talk and exchange about gluten free diet and lifestyle.

Besides the famous Olimpico stadium is a few blocks away Café & Pâtisserie, so if you are going to see a football match or a concert, this is one place to stop by and make the plenty of great, artisanal, fresh food. The fact that it is “also” gluten free, it’s actually just a plus, not a minus to me.

Ingredients

Recipe for 12:
– 200 gr butter
– 200 gr whole sugar “mascobado” variety
– 200 gr almonds flour
– 120 gr dark chocolate 70%
– 4 eggs
– 4 teaspoons of cocoa powder
– 2 level teaspoon of cinnamon
– 2 tea spoon of baking powder
– the zest of 6 yuzu (or 3 organic oranges)
– icing sugar and fresh fruit to decorate
