The gluten free pastry shop for gourmets who have not renounced pleasure

Yesterday I headed to Gaté sans gluten: a newly opened pastry shop in Paris Saint Germain des Près neighbourhood. This is definitely good news as today most of the gluten free places are located on the “Rive droite” (that is the right side of La Seine river) and now there is an address also on the “Rive gauche” aka on the left!

I am very “gourmande” and at least once a day, I need to satisfy my sweet tooth. A place like Gaté is heaven to me and the beautiful pastries standing in front of me were not only superb in the way they looked but also so good!

The master behind them is talented pastry chef Sébastien Lenglet whom I got the chance to talk for a while. Sébastien has trained himself as a classic “gluten” pastry chef for years in France and abroad. Then, one day, Emmanuel Grenier, co-founder of Gaté Sans gluten, knocked at his door and challenged him to create delicious gluten free pastries using his know-how. Sébastien accepted immediately and jumped on the boat.

By tasting his pastries I can say that the result is excellent. They are some of the best gluten free pastries that I have ever eaten.

Let me introduce you Madame “Violette”: a lovely tart made of white chocolate, mousse of vanilla from Congo, and a ganache of cassis and blueberry at the very heart.

I also had the “Onde 2 Choc” which was literally a shock to me but a positive one! A wave of some of the finest dark chocolate exploded in my mouth. I also liked how Sébastien played with different textures and how the creamy chocolate married with the crunchy praliné inside.

What to say about the Green Lemon tart, the Paris-Brest, the Macaron, the coffee or chocolate Religieuse…?!!

That I will save them for my next visit. Emmanuel tells me that Sébastien pâte à choux is to-die-for…how can I resist this call ??!!

A delicious gluten free pumpkin soup with bacon

At Gaté there are several savoury gluten free dishes available on the menu: for lunch I tried a delicious pumpkin soup, with bacon, cream, nutmeg, and salad.

I also enjoyed the buckwheat bread that is baked fresh everyday. On the menu there also salads and quiches.

Now that I left, I can say that this pastry shop and tea room is definitely one place to go and to be spoiled – as in the French word “Gaté”.

Pleasure and joy rhyme with it and so will all the gluten free lovers from from all over the world that happen to be in Paris… my word :)!
